Man accused of stealing cash, then running over victim’s foot

A robbery victim not only had his money taken but also had his foot run over this week by a man he knew, Lawrence police say.

Police were called to the 2200 block of Westdale Road about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to investigate a robbery, Officer Derrick Smith said in an email to the Journal-World.

The victim told police he’d met with the suspect, an acquaintance, because the suspect wanted to borrow money, but in the process of being loaned money the suspect grabbed all the victim’s money from his hand, Smith said. The suspect then got into a vehicle to flee, and the victim tried to chase him, Smith said.

As the suspect drove away, the victim’s foot got run over, Smith said. Smith said Wednesday afternoon that the police investigation was ongoing and information about the extent of the victim’s injuries wasn’t immediately available.
