Suspect reportedly bites employee after getting kicked out of downtown Lawrence bar

A man who was picking fights at a downtown Lawrence bar — then picking more fights after getting kicked out of said bar — bit an employee and took off, police say.

The situation was reported about 1:20 a.m. Saturday at Leroy’s Tavern, 729 New Hampshire St. Here’s what was reported to police, Officer Derrick Smith said in an email response to my inquiry about this incident:

The suspect had been trying to pick fights with other patrons at the bar, and when staff asked him to leave, he pushed an employee and then “was removed” from the bar. A few minutes later, the suspect picked a fight with some people right outside the bar. It was during that confrontation when the suspect reportedly bit an employee who tried to break up the fight.

The suspect fled the scene but was later located by officers and issued a citation for battery, Smith said.
