Police arrest man they say mooned officers at traffic stop

A Missouri man was taken to jail on suspicion of indecent exposure this week, after allegedly mooning officers who pulled him over.

The incident happened about 3 a.m. Thursday near 15th and Vermont streets. According to Lawrence Police Department spokeswoman Kim Murphree, officers initially pulled the 23-year-old Liberty resident over on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence and having an open container.

“He walked away from the vehicle and was supposed to be going to the gas station to relieve himself, but stopped at the corner on the sidewalk and started yelling at officers and exposing himself,” Murphree said. Specifically, she said, the man pulled his pants down and “exposed his backside to officers” — twice.

Murphree said alcohol is considered a contributing factor in the incident.
