KU volleyball notches 2 victories

Kansas opened the Bluegrass Battle in Lexington, Ky., with a pair of wins on Friday ahead of its matchup with No. 16 Kentucky on Saturday.

For its second win of the season, Kansas rallied back from a 2-1 deficit to win its second five-set match of the season against Dayton, 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-7). Kansas faced College of Charleston for the second half of its doubleheader and won another five-set match, 3-2 (18-25, 25-15, 16-25, 25-11, 16-14).

“We faced adversity and had to do some rearranging with the lineup when Patricia (Montero) came out, but you look at four Jayhawks in double-digit kills — that is good balance,” head coach Ray Bechard said in a team release. “The number of newcomers who were on the floor today was significant. With that, there is going to be some inconsistency.”

Kansas (3-1) will face Kentucky at 6 p.m. Saturday.
