One person injured in rollover in eastern Lawrence; cars were reportedly racing

One person was taken by ambulance to a Kansas City area hospital after a rollover crash early Wednesday.

First responders were dispatched about 3:20 a.m. to the 3800 block of Greenway Circle in eastern Lawrence.

According to Lt. Lyle Hagenbuch of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, two vehicles were racing northbound in the 1400 block of East 1750 Road. One of the vehicles was unable to stop at the intersection of North 1500 Road. The vehicle continued through the intersection, slid off the east side of the road and rolled onto its top.

First responders took the injured driver, described only as a male in his 30s, to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. His injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.

The incident remains under investigation.
