Lawrence High’s Jack Hood has been named the Class 6A Girls Track Coach of the Year by the Kansas Cross Country Track and Field Coaches Association, which was announced Friday afternoon.

Hood directed the Lions to a state championship this past season, notching their first team title since 2015. LHS managed to record a podium finish in all three relay races to go along with nine individual medals. Lawrence finished with 81 points at the state track meet, besting runner-up Olathe Northwest’s mark of 61 points.

The track crown was the only state championship for LHS during the 2017-18 season, though it was the 108th team title in school history.
