JD Woods named HAAC offensive player of the week

Former Lawrence High football standout JD Woods was named as the Heart of America Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after breaking Baker’s single-game rushing record in a 49-0 win over Central Methodist.

Woods rushed for 313 yards and four touchdowns on 28 carries to eclipse the previous mark set by Kevin Alwine (306 yards against Missouri Valley in 1985). It’s the second time this season that the Baker freshman has been selected as the HAAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Woods still leads the NAIA in touchdowns with 23. Twenty-two of Woods’ touchdowns have been on the ground. Woods is closing in on his teammate’s single-season rushing touchdown record. Baldwin High product Cornell Brown, who suffered a season-ending thumb injury back in September, rumbled for 24 rushing touchdowns last season.
