Facing the defending Class 6A state champions in its season opener, the Lawrence High softball team lost, 8-5, on Thursday at Olathe District Activity Complex.

The Lions (0-1) scored five runs in the second inning, which included a grand slam by senior Annie Grammer, but couldn’t hold off the O-South (4-0) offense.

Lawrence will face McLouth in a doubleheader, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at LHS.
