Houser takes over as Baker AD; Grosbach tenders resignation

Along with entering his 10th season as the Baker University men’s soccer coach, Nate Houser now has another role at his alma mater.

Assistant athletic director of communications Tyler Price confirmed to the Journal-World on Thursday that Houser has taken over as Baker’s athletic director for Theresa Yetmar Grosbach, who tendered her resignation earlier this month.

Houser — a 1994 Baker alumnus — returned to Baker in 2003 to be the women’s soccer coach. He then took over the men’s program as well in 2008. Houser has amassed a record of 225-118-26 between the two programs. Both the men’s and women’s teams have reached the Final Four of the NAIA tournament under Houser’s direction.

The Wildcats’ new athletic director was inducted into the Baker Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007 for his standout soccer career. Houser still holds Baker’s all-time records for goals and assists.

Houser turned over the head coaching position of the women’s program to Davy Phillips in 2014. Phillips held that role until accepting the head coach position for Washburn University’s women’s soccer team in July. Mark Sheldon was hired late last month to fill Baker’s head coach spot.

Price also confirmed that Grosbach will remain at Baker through the end of the month to help Houser with his new position.

The Journal-World’s attempts to reach Houser, Grosbach and president Lynne Murray on Thursday were not successful.
