BONNER SPRINGS — Tonganoxie was handed its first loss of the season, falling 21-12 to Bonner Springs in a hard-fought road contest on Friday.

Trailing by two points in the fourth quarter, the Chieftains turned the ball over on downs on the Braves’ 17-yard line with less than a minute to go. Two players later, Bonner Springs’ senior running back Charlie Gray broke an 82-yard run to seal the deal.

In a losing effort, Tonganoxie punched it in twice on a six-yard run from senior running back Jordan Brown in the second quarter and a seven-yard plunge by junior quarterback Mason Beach in the third. Brown and Beach led the way on the ground with 91 and 60 yards, respectively.

On both scores, the Cheiftains were unable to complete the two-point conversion, which proved to be costly late.
