College swim meet to close Lone Star Lake for boating Friday and Saturday

Lone Star Lake will be closed for boating from Friday morning until Saturday afternoon for the National Collegiate Open Water Swimming Championships, which the University of Kansas is hosting.

Douglas County Public Works Director Keith Browning said the lake would be closed for boating Friday so that teams could practice and for the competition Saturday morning. The swimming beach will also be closed for public use during the competition, he said. The lake will be reopened to boats after the competition concludes Saturday afternoon.

In case of rain, Saturday’s meet will be rescheduled for Sunday, extending the boating ban another day, Browning said.
