LHS tennis goes 2-0-1 in Leavenworth

? The Lawrence High girls tennis team opened the 2016 season by winning two and tying one at Thursday’s tennis quad at Leavenworth.

Led by singles victories from Chisato Kimura (8-0) and Nina Givotovsky (8-0), LHS swept Shawnee Mission North, 4-0, in its most convincing win of the day. The Lions took all but one game from the Indians during the match.

The No. 1 doubles team of Natalie Cote and Chloe Thornton also won 8-1 while Mia Water and Satori Good teamed to top SM North, 8-0, in No. 2 doubles action.

LHS also defeated host Leavenworth, 3-1, with Givotovsky winning the No. 2 singles match, 8-2, and Cote-Thornton winning the No. 1 doubles showdown 8-2. Water and teammate Caitlyn Kliem won in No. 2 doubles action, 8-2. All four battles were decided by the 8-2 score.

In the opening match of the afternoon, the Lions tied Gardner-Edgerton 2-2, with Givotovsky (8-1) and Cote-Thorton (8-6) each winning for the Lions.

Next up, LHS will host the Lawrence quad at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Rock Chalk Park.
