Area football roundup: Baldwin trips Osawatomie

? The Baldwin High football team stayed in the win column for the second straight week, notching a 49-21 victory over Osawatomie on Friday night.

The Bulldogs have now won two straight district contests, after starting off the season 0-6. In both victories, Baldwin has scored a total of 149 points. Through the first six weeks, the team posted a combined total of 57 points.

Baldwin (2-6, 2-0) will look to stay on the winning track when it travels to Prairie View (2-6, 1-1) next week.

Piper 28, Tonganoxie 0

Kansas City, Kan. — Tonganoxie’s offense was held to 89 total yards in a loss at Piper. Jordan Brown led the Chieftains with 17 rushes for 72 yards.

Piper scored in the first minute after Tonganoxie’s onside kick failed on the first play of the game. Tonganoxie’s defense held the Piper offense scoreless the rest of the half, and it was able to keep the team within striking distance for almost three quarters, despite spending almost the entire game on the field.

Late in the third quarter, Piper (5-3, 1-1) converted a fourth and 27 that led to its second touchdown before blowing it open in the fourth quarter with two more touchdowns.

Tonganoxie (5-3, 1-1) concludes its regular season at 7 p.m. Friday at Basehor-Linwood (8-0, 2-0).

Spring Hill — Lee Andrews gained 170 yards on 30 carries and completed 5 of 7 passes, but the Cardinals fell to Spring Hill (5-3, 1-1).

Andrews ran 75 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and completed a 9-yard TD pass to Ryan Verbanic in the fourth.

Eudora (2-6, 0-2) will play at home Friday against De Soto (6-2, 1-1).

Silver Lake 21, Perry-Lecompton 19

Silver Lake — Third-quarter conversions proved to be the difference in Perry-Lecompton’s loss at Silver Lake (8-0, 2-0).

After being held scoreless in the first half, the Kaws scored twice in the third quarter to erase a seven-point deficit. However, they missed the kick on the first score and a two-point pass was unsuccessful on the second try.

Perry-Lecompton accumulated 315 yards of total offense on the night. Quarterback Jordan Spreer threw for 122 yards on 15 attempts while adding 104 yards on the ground off 11 carries.

The Kaws (3-5, 1-1) will travel to Oskaloosa (4-4, 0-2) next week to to conclude the regular season.

Louisburg — The Ottawa High football team extended its winning streak to three with a win over Louisburg.

Devion Bethea found the end zone twice early on to give OHS the early lead. The Cyclones kept on the attack scoring in a number of ways en route to a 20-point district win, clinching a spot in the Class 4A-I state playoffs.
