Lawrence forestry crew offers up-close look at emerald ash borer infestation

The effects of emerald ash borer infestation are shown in these two trees, Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Broken Arrow Park. The tree at the left is infested, while the tree at right is healthy. Both trees were planted at the same time.

Last month, the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department began removing and replacing ash trees infected by emerald ash borers. Thursday afternoon, the city offered an up-close look at that process.

The City of Lawrence’s main Twitter account spent a little over an hour documenting the evaluation and removal of several infected trees. City forestry workers showed the signs of infection, offered advice for property owners with ash trees and then got to work with saws and heavy machinery.
