Lawrence schools Superintendent Rick Doll has been named the recipient of an award from Kansas State University’s College of Education.

The Dan and Cheryl Yunk Excellence in Educational Administration Award honors school administrators for their expertise and impact, according to a KSU news release.

The award was established in honor of the Yunks and recognizes the importance of educational administrators in establishing environments that promote student learning. Throughout their careers, the Yunks were teachers and administrators in the Manhattan-Ogden School District.

“I have known Dan and Cheryl Yunk for many years,” Doll said in the release. “It is both humbling and gratifying to be honored with this award in their name because as an administrator, I am keenly aware of their many contributions to the field of education.”

Doll earned his bachelor’s degree in history at McPherson College and a master’s degree and a doctorate in educational administration from Kansas State University. Doll began his position as superintendent of Lawrence public schools in 2009 and will resign at the end of June. Doll announced in November that he had accepted a full-time position as associate professor and executive director of the Kansas Educational Leadership Institute at Kansas State University.
