LHS boys tennis takes third place

Battling windy conditions and six other teams Tuesday, the Lawrence High boys tennis team finished third in its own invitational tournament at LHS.

Elliott Abromeit opened play with a third-place finish at No. 1 singles, defeating Renton Williams of Andover Central, 8-2, in his final match.

Zach Bowie finished fourth at No. 2 singles when he had to retire with cramps in the third-place match.

Cameron Guy finished fifth at No. 3 singles, defeating Elvis Umana of Emporia, 8-6.

The No. 1 doubles team of Sam Allen and Brendan Conner finished fourth, losing, 8-3, to Deneault and Federico of Topeka Hayden.

At No. 2 doubles, Jonathan Kinder and Austin Butell finished second, losing to Winters and Thompson of Andover Central in the final.

Lawrence’s No. 3 doubles team, Russel-Wright, lost to Skrzypek and Guerro of Topeka Hayden, 8-4, in the third-place match.

Andover Central took first place with 44 points, Topeka Hayden finished second with 42 points and Lawrence High scored 34 points.

“Considering the conditions, I was very pleased with out third-place finish,” said LHS coach Chris Marshall. “I’m looking forward to our improving in the weeks ahead.
