Kansas’ Payne on Pan Am roster

? USA Volleyball has listed Kansas University’s Kelsie Payne on the 12-member Pan American Cup roster. The 12 athletes selected will train in California until the Pan American Cup begins Saturday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Payne has accomplished a great deal in her two years as a Jayhawk: AVCA First Team All-America status, All-Big 12 First Team honors, and NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team recognition.

The U.S. Women’s National Team invited Payne and libero Cassie Wait, along with 17 other athletes, to train and compete in Anaheim for a roster spot.

“This is a great opportunity for Kelsie,” Kansas coach Ray Bechard said. “Based on what Cassie was seeing on the floor in Anaheim this week, we are really proud of how hard Kelsie was working, the level that she played at, and the type of teammate she is being. Kelsie and Cassie have a lot of talent, but as they continue to grow in other intangibles, that is what creates great opportunities.”
