Preliminary hearing in kidnapping, attempted murder case set for March

The preliminary hearing for a Sioux Falls, S.D., man accused of kidnapping, stabbing and robbing another man was scheduled on Monday for early March.

Lavern Reffitt, 22, was arrested Jan. 5. He faces felony charges of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery.

On Jan. 25, 2015, Reffitt forcibly confined a Missouri man and stabbed him in the chest with the intention to kill him, according to a criminal complaint filed in Douglas County District Court. He is also accused of taking the victim’s clothes, shoes, wallet, drugs and a knife.

Reffitt is currently being held in the Douglas County Jail without bond. He appeared in court Monday, when his preliminary hearing was set for 3 p.m. March 4.
