Veritas boys, girls fall

? Chad Stieben scored 14 points, but Veritas Christian’s boys basketball team fell to Kansas City Piper, 61-24, on Thursday in the Spring Hill tournament.

Veritas trailed 17-5 after one quarter and 37-13 at halftime.

The Eagles (8-7) will play two games today — against Osawatomie in the Spring Hill tournament at 3 p.m., and against Riverside in the McLouth tournament at 7:45 p.m.

McLouth — McLouth erased an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Veritas Christian in the McLouth tournament.

“We had a lead and we couldn’t hold it,” Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said. “We just didn’t take care of it at the free-throw line.”

The Eagles hits 13 of 32 free throws.

Veritas (7-6) will play at 10 a.m. Saturday against Kansas City Christian in McLouth.
