Kansas chief justice to deliver State of the Judiciary Feb. 3

? Kansas Chief Justice Lawton Nuss will deliver his annual State of the Judiciary address at 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 3.

This will mark the third year in a row that Nuss has delivered the address from the Supreme Court chambers in the Kansas Judicial Center. Previously, the addresses were delivered from the House chamber in the Statehouse, similar to the governor’s State of the State address.

Under the Kansas Constitution, the chief justice serves as the official spokesman for the entire court system. The address usually focuses on the role that the court system plays in Kansas as well as needs of the judiciary, including any budget or other policy initiatives the courts want the Legislature to approve.

The speech will be available in a live stream from the Supreme Court’s website, www.kscourts.org. A recording of the speech will also be posted on the website afterward.
