Clinton campaign to open Lawrence office; Sanders to campaign in Kansas City, Mo.

? With less than two weeks before the Kansas Democratic presidential caucuses, both major campaigns will hold events in the area on Wednesday.

Hillary Clinton’s campaign will officially open its Lawrence office at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The office is located at 2449 Iowa St. It will be the fourth Clinton campaign office in Kansas. Others are located in Overland Park, Wichita and Manhattan.

Rep. John Wilson, D-Lawrence, a member of the Hillary for Kansas Leadership Council, will greet visitors to the office. Organizers and volunteers will plan and launch phone banks, organizing meetings and canvasses from the Lawrence location, talking to potential caucus goers, the campaign said.

Earlier in the day, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders will hold a rally at the Bartle Hall convention center in Kansas City, Mo. Doors will open at 11 a.m.

The event is free and open to the public, but the campaign strongly encourages those who plan to attend to RSVP through the campaign website in advance. Admission will be on a first-come first-served basis.

The Kansas Democratic caucuses will be held Saturday, March 5. Voters participating are asked to show up and register from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Caucusing will start around 3 p.m.

In Douglas County, Democratic voters in the Second State Senate District, which includes most of Lawrence north of 23rd Street and Clinton Parkway, will caucus at Liberty Memorial Central Middle School, 1400 Massachusetts St.

Voters in the Third State Senate District will caucus at Eudora High School, 2203 Church St. That district, represented by Sen. Tom Holland, D-Baldwin City, includes the cities of Eudora and Baldwin City, and most of rural eastern Douglas County.

Voters in rural western Douglas County who live in the 19th Senate District, represented by Sen. Anthony Hensley, D-Topeka, will caucus at Highland Park High School, 2424 S.E. California Ave., in Topeka.
