Douglas County Commission to consider tow service contract

The Douglas County commission meets in the historic courtroom on the second floor of the old county courthouse, 1100 Massachusetts St.

Douglas County commissioners will conduct an annual review of the county’s contracts with tow truck providers at their Wednesday meeting.

Commissioners will be asked to set maximum fees tow providers can charge They also will be asked to add a few amendments at the request of tow providers. One recommendation would change the definition of what constitutes personal property within vehicles impounded because their owners cannot pay a towing fee. The change will limit property vehicle owners can retrieve to medical supplies and child safety equipment.

In other business, the commission will consider:

• A request from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to purchase seven new vehicles for $311,165.

• Approval from the sheriff’s office to purchase eight digital color car video systems for $44,810.

• Providing a match of $225,000 so the county can continue participating in the Outreach, Prevention and Early Childhood Services program through the Douglas County Health Department.

The Douglas County Commission meets at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Massachusetts St. The full agenda can be found online at http://douglascountyks.org/services/government/public-meetings.
