Douglas County under flash flood warning until Wednesday morning

Douglas County is in a severe thunderstorm watch until 2 a.m. Wednesday. It is the latest watch issued for the county in an active weather day in Kansas.

The National Weather Service in Topeka on has issued a flash flood warning for Douglas County in effect until 2 a.m Wednesday.

Thunderstorms moving across the area Tuesday night produced 2 to 3 inches of rainfall, and flash flooding was expected, according to the NWS. An additional 2 inches of rain were possible Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Excessive runoff from the rain was expected to cause flooding of small creeks and streams, county roads, farmland and other low-lying spots.

The NWS had previously issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Douglas County, but it was canceled late Tuesday.
