Health Department to offer flu shots in Baldwin City, Eudora, Lecompton

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department will offer flu shots during community clinics in Baldwin City, Eudora and Lecompton this month.

The Health Department recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older get a yearly flu vaccine. Getting the vaccination is the most effective way to avoid getting the flu, a contagious respiratory illness. Influenza can cause mild to severe symptoms and can lead to death.

Community clinics will be in:

• Baldwin City — Oct. 13, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Baldwin City Library, 800 Seventh St.

• Eudora — Oct. 13, 3:30 to 5 p.m., Eudora City Hall, 4 E. Seventh St.

• Lecompton — Oct. 21, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Lecompton United Methodist Church, 402 Elmore St.

The flu shot is $28 for children ages 6 months to 35 months and $35 for those 3 years and older. The high-dose vaccine for individuals who are 65 and older is $51. The Health Department accepts private insurance, Medicare Part B, Medicaid and KanCare insurance plans.

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, 200 Maine St., also offers flu shots on a walk-in basis during clinic hours. No appointment is necessary.
