Library to host one-day Artist Inc. program

Before Artist Inc. launches in Lawrence next spring, the Lawrence Public Library will host a shortened, one-day version of the program called “What Works with David Wayne Reed” this week.

The Kansas City-based Artist Inc. is an eight-week professional development program that addresses the specific needs and challenges of artists from all disciplines, training participants in marketing, technology, law, business planning, and networking and relationship-building, among other skills.

Since its launch in 2009, Artist Inc. has provided training (for a nominal fee) to more than 450 artists in the Kansas City area, and now serves artists in six satellite communities across the region.

The Lawrence Arts Center and the Oklahoma Visual Artist Coalition joined that list last month, as chosen by Artist Inc.

Writer and Artist Inc. fellow David Wayne Reed will facilitate Thursday’s “What Works” event, slated for 6 to 7:30 p.m. The discussion is set to include portfolio careers, goal setting and planning, communications strategy and financial planning.
