Woodland scores ace at Byron Nelson

? Former Kansas University golfer Gary Woodland had a hole-in-one on the par-4-turned-par 3- 14th hole in the AT&T Byron Nelson on Friday at the saturated TPC Four Seasons.

Five inches of rain overnight created a pond in the landing area of the hole, which normally plays at 406 yards. During a three-hour delay, groundskeepers created a new tee box on the fairway side of a pond that wraps around the left side of the green.

When Woodland played the hole, PGA officials still planned to score the 14th as a par-4, which would have given him a double-eagle.

After consulting, officials decided to make the now-105-yard 14th a par-3. In addition, par for the course was lowered from 70 to 69.

Every early finisher within three shots of the lead turned in birdies on the hole, including hometown favorite Jordan Spieth, who is tied for 11th after shooting 64 to back up his 69 in the opening round.

Jon Curran, Jimmy Walker and Steven Bowditch shared the second-round lead at 9 under. A number of golfers were unable to finish because of the three-hour delay.

Woodland shot 63 Thursday and is tied for 27th at 4 under.

There was another strong chance of overnight storms into today, but the forecast improves considerably during the day. Workers began getting the course ready starting at 4 a.m.
