Today in Lawrence: Ninth Street corridor, city band return

Warm, sunny

Keep your AC cool and sunscreen handy, because it’s going to be another warm, sunny May day. By 10 a.m., temperatures already will be in the 70s, with a high of 82 degrees likely around 5 p.m. A small thunderstorm could straggle into Douglas County later this evening, but it shouldn’t drop much moisture, according to the National Weather Service in Topeka.

Town talk

If you do need to duck out of the rain this evening, head to the Lawrence Public Library auditorium, 707 Vermont St., for the next installment of the Ninth Street Corridor Citizen Advisory Committee. The 7 p.m. meeting offers residents a chance to touch base with project planners on ongoing designs to make over the historic East Lawrence street.

City band

And at 8 p.m., don’t miss the Lawrence City Band’s first concert of 2015, “A New Summer Season,” at South Park. Grab your picnic blanket (and maybe an umbrella) and head for the park at 12th and Massachusetts streets.
