40 years ago: City, county, school board await installation of new computer system

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 26, 1975:

A new computer being purchased by the city, county, and school district was to be delivered in about a week and, if all went well, installed by the end of June. Officials reported that the new system would have sufficient capacity to store all the information possessed by the three agencies. Confidentiality and security were not given high priority at this time, as most records that would be placed in the system were already a matter of public record, such as real estate and property records, payroll records, and city and county budgets. The water bills to be included on the system were not part of the public record, but who, asked assistant city manager Mike Wildgen, would want to see his neighbor’s water bill?
