City of Lawrence hours for Memorial Day: what’s open and what’s not

The City of Lawrence has announced the hours for city facilities and services for the Memorial Day holiday, which is Monday.

All city administrative offices will be closed Monday.

No yard-waste collection will take place. Yard-waste collection will resume on June 1. No other changes are planned in the solid waste route schedules. Commercial pickups will run as usual.

The Lawrence Transit System will be closed on Monday, and neither fixed route nor paratransit buses will run. There will be no Night Line service Sunday night or Monday morning. Night Line service will resume at 8 p.m. Monday.

Parking at meters in downtown Lawrence will be free on Monday.

To report a water or sewer emergency after business hours or during weekends and holidays, contact the Utilities Department at (785) 832-7800.

The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will be open Monday for lap swimming from 9 a.m. to 8:45 p.m.; the Water slide and diving area will be open from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and the zero-depth and children’s area will be open from 1 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

The Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Kentucky St., will be open from 1 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

Eagle Bend Golf Course and Learning Center, 1250 East 902 Road, will be open and available for tee times. Patrons can schedule a tee time by contacting (785) 748-0600 (for out-of-town patrons, 1-(877) 861-4653 (GOLF) or online at http://lawks.us/ebteetimes.

Oak Hill Cemetery, 1605 Oak Hill Ave., Maple Grove Cemetery, intersection of highways 24 and 40 and Memorial Park Cemetery, 1517 E. 15th St., will be open to visitors from dusk to dawn during the holiday weekend. Parks and Recreation staff will be available to answer questions at Memorial Park Cemetery 10 a.m. to noon Saturday-Monday. The VFW, Boy Scout Troop 60 and Girl Scout Troop 1983 will have a citywide flag retirement ceremony 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery. The ceremony is open to the public.

Sports Pavilion Lawrence, 100 Rock Chalk Lane, will be open 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. All other Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed, including: Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St.; Community Building, 115 W. 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St.; and South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St. Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will also be closed.

There will be no recreational classes, adult sports, special populations, special events or youth sports held on the holiday.
