40 years ago: KU approaches graduation milestone

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 16, 1975:

Some Kansas University students were still hard at work finishing their final exams while the senior class prepared for Commencement weekend. Graduating students were to pick up their mortar boards and gowns at Hoch Auditorium on Saturday. Gilbert Dyck, dean of records and admissions, said today that KU had only 1,004 graduates to go until hitting the milestone of 100,000 graduates. The graduate bearing that number was to be recognized and given a free lifetime membership in the KU Alumni Association, Dyck said. The university’s 10,000th graduate was coincidentally in town this weekend. Mrs. Chester C. Bunger of Neodesha, the former Louise Cowdery, had graduated in 1925 and was visiting to celebrate her class’s 50th reunion.
