The Kansas University football program picked up its second oral commitment in the Class of 2016 on Monday night, when Snow College offensive lineman Joe Malanga pledged his services to the Jayhawks.

According to a report from JayhawkSlant.com, Malanga, a 6-foot-4, 300-pound sophomore-to-be who is on track to be a December graduate, made the commitment official with a phone call to KU O-Line coach Zach Yenser.

Malanga was one of five players from Snow College who made a visit to KU this spring to check out the campus and take in a practice.

“Joe really liked it,” Snow recruiting coordinator Chaz Ryan told JayhawkSlant’s Jon Kirby. “During the visit he talked about how he could see himself playing at Kansas. He really liked coach Yenser and coach (Kenny) Perry. The visit to Kansas had a positive effect.”

Malanga, an all-region selection out of Bingham High in Utah, originally enrolled at Utah State but later transferred to Snow.

Last season he played both tackle and guard. He is projected to start at right tackle this fall and projects as a tackle at Kansas.

Malanga chose KU, which offered a scholarship in February, over growing interest from BYU, Utah and Missouri. He joins 2016 Mansfield, Texas wide receiver Braylon Royal, who committed to Kansas in late April. Both are two-star prospects, according to Rivals.com.
