Sporting KC, D.C. United play to 1-1 tie

? D.C. United’s Jairo Arrieta and Sporting Kansas City’s Dom Dwyer traded goals late in the first half in a 1-1 tie Saturday night.

Chris Pontius controlled Perry Kitchen’s diagonal cross and stabbed it over to Arrieta for a quick left-footed strike in the 42nd minute that briefly put United (5-1-3) ahead.

Dwyer answered for Sporting KC (3-2-5) in the 45th minute with a smash from the middle of the 18-yard box, his third goal of the season. Dwyer also sent a header into the net off a free kick in the 62nd minute, but was caught offside.

United extended its undefeated streak to seven games in this meeting between the former Eastern Conference rivals.
