The assistant principal and athletic director of Liberty Memorial Central Middle School will step down at the end of the academic year to take a job in the Shawnee Mission school district, Julie Boyle of the Lawrence school district said in a release.

Jeremy McDonnell has accepted a position as an elementary school principal, the release said.

Before working in Lawrence, McDonnell spent four years as an assistant principal in the Gardner Edgerton School District. He also taught sixth grade for four years in the Ottawa School District.

“I wish the best to the exceptional students, families and staff at LMCMS and hope the success continues in the years to come, McDonnell said in the release.

The Lawrence district will immediately look to fill McDonnell’s position, Boyle said.
