40 years ago: KU to discuss contract extension for Coach Owens

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 14, 1975:

On the eve of the NCAA basketball sub-regional tournament games, Kansas University head coach Ted Owens appeared headed for a contract extension. The Journal-World had learned that the KU Athletic Corp. board, tentatively scheduled to meet April 2, was to consider a three-year extension of Owens’ contract, which was then running until June 30, 1976. Owens’ annual salary of $26,000 was also to be reviewed at the session. When the Jayhawks were to meet Notre Dame this weekend in Tulsa, it was to be the 302nd game for Owens during his KU tenure. Through his first 300, the team’s record was 210 wins against 90 losses. During his tenure, KU had won 11 of a possible 22 Big Eight tournament and conference championships. The upcoming Notre Dame game marked the seventh time Owens had taken the Jayhawks to post-season activity, and in 1971 and 1974 he had taken Kansas to the Final Four.
