40 years ago: Future of Clinton Township in question

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 9, 1975:

An article this week described how a local township had been dramatically transformed by the construction of a reservoir. Even though there was not yet a lake in place, the development of the Clinton Lake area had swallowed up 50 percent of Clinton Township, and some residents were concerned about the preservation of the remainder. The remnants consisted mainly of three large sections, separated by the Wakarusa and Rock Creek arms of the reservoir; when water was impounded, these areas would be directly connected only by the circumference road. At issue for some residents was the effect of this on township valuation. Some wondered if the township could possibly survive probable cuts to its tax base, while others said emphatically that they did not want the township to dissolve, citing both practical and sentimental reasons.
