Lawrence Schools Foundation Board of Trustees member honored with Outstanding Citizen Award

Martin Moore, former president of the Lawrence Schools Foundation Board of Trustees, was presented with the 2015 Outstanding Citizen Award on Monday night at the Lawrence school board’s weekly meeting.

The award is presented annually to an individual or individuals “for outstanding leadership in service to public education,” Superintendent Rick Doll said.

Moore volunteered with the foundation’s board for eight years, Doll said. Throughout the year the board works to generate private donations that may help “enrich the education of our students,” he said.

During his tenure, Moore has served as president and vice president and as a member of several committees. His term as president ended in December of 2014, although he remains a member of the foundation’s board.

As Moore was announced as the recipient of the award a group of friends and colleagues cheered and blew into noisemakers in his honor.

After Doll finished reciting some of Moore’s accolades, Moore thanked his supporters and the board for the recognition.

“To receive this award from this group really means a lot to me,” Moore said. “I love having my co-board members helping me out and making some noise. That’s the kind of board we are. We’re very supportive and very happy to help Lawrence schools, and we’ll keep doing what we’re doing.”

Superintendent Rick Doll presents the 2015 Outstanding Citizen Award to Lawrence Schools Foundation past-president Martin Moore. Thank you for your eight years (and counting!) service to our schools.
