Lawrence man cited for June 7 crash that hospitalized Topeka man

A Lawrence man has been issued two traffic citations from a June 7 crash that hospitalized a Topeka man, police said.

Jack Greever was cited for driving left of center and for failure to yield, a spokesperson for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

About 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Greever was westbound on U.S. Highway 40 when his vehicle hit an eastbound vehicle, driven by Melissa Weisgerber, 27, of Topeka.

The impact of that crash caused Weisgerber’s vehicle to crash head-on into a westbound car driven by Doug Hitt, 58, of Topeka.

Hitt was taken by helicopter to Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka with serious injuries. An update on his condition was not available Wednesday.

Weisgerber and her passenger, Rebecca Dodds, 33, of Topeka, both were transported by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released that day.

Neither Greever nor his passenger were injured in the accident.
