Man in fair condition following Tuesday accident on U.S. 40; woman’s condition unclear

A 24-year-old Topeka man remained in fair condition Thursday after being thrown from a vehicle in a wreck Tuesday, a Stormont Vail Hospital representative said.

Marcus Love, 24, of Topeka, and Ebony Boykins, 24, of Topeka, were ejected from an SUV Tuesday after the vehicle veered off the 600 block of U.S. Highway 40, rolled several times, went through a barbed wire fence and landed on its side in a pasture, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Three children under the age of 5, of Topeka, were also in the vehicle but were not ejected, Lewis said. They were taken to Stormont Vail as a precaution, but were sent home with family members Tuesday night.

Love was taken by ground ambulance with serious injuries after the accident to Stormont Vail, where he has remained since he was admitted Tuesday, hospital officials said.

Boykins was flown by helicopter ambulance to Kansas University Hospital Tuesday in critical condition. On Wednesday, she was listed as being in critical-but-stable condition, according to the sheriff’s office. But on Thursday, hospital representatives “could neither confirm or deny” Boykins’ presence at KU Hospital.

The accident remains under investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
