KU plans public forum to share designs for Irving Hill redevelopment

Kansas University is planning a community forum to share information about redevelopment plans for KU’s Central District, or Irving Hill area.

The forum is planned for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. July 29 in the Schwegler Elementary School gym, 2201 Ousdahl Road.

Redevelopment is part of KU’s comprehensive Campus Master Plan, announced and launched last year.

The Central District is bounded by 15th Street to the north, 19th street to the south, Naismith Drive to the east and Iowa Street to the west. The master plan calls for the heart of the district — currently home to Stouffer Place Apartments, which closed for good this summer — to transform into “Innovation Way,” featuring new learning and research buildings and student living spaces.

The July 29 forum will feature visuals and a series of small, direct conversations between attendees and KU planners, according to an announcement from KU.

KU plans a second open forum from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 24 in the Burge Union.
