A woman was arrested Thursday night after bringing a handgun to a school event at West Middle School, Lawrence Public Schools said in a release.

A person in attendance at the event noticed the weapon and alerted school staff, the release said. An off-duty police officer, also in attendance, arrested the woman.

There was no incident with the weapon and no threats were made to harm anyone, the release said.
