Today in Lawrence: Hot weather and LFK Poetry Slam

Heat wave

West of Lawrence, Russell set a Jan. 27 record high of 83 degrees Tuesday, obliterating the previous high mark. We won’t get quite that warm in Lawrence, but look for an afternoon high near 70 degrees with lots of sunshine. Enjoy it while it lasts, though: There’s snow in store this weekend.

Rhyme time

And don’t miss the LFK Poetry Slam, moving to a new location tonight at The Bottleneck, 737 New Hampshire St. The $5 cover includes drink specials, feature readers and publishers and some special guest appearances. The open-mic starts at 7, with the slam at 8. Get more info on the slam’s Facebook page, here.
