Three KU students from Lawrence among 20 sophomores honored

Three Kansas University students from Lawrence were among 20 sophomores recognized as this year’s University Scholars, officials said.

The students are:

  • Rachel Benefiel, majoring in American studies, sociology and film and media studies.
  • Matthew Pfannenstiel, majoring in behavioral neuroscience.
  • Antonio Schoneich, majoring in aerospace engineering and minoring in mathematics.

University Scholars are selected for their academic achievements and continuing potential. All 20 students were formally honored at a Jan. 25 banquet at the Kansas Union, Kansas University said in a release.

The University Scholars Program was founded in 1982 and counts more than 700 alumni around the world. Second-year KU students with a 3.8 cumulative grade-point average are all invited to apply to the program.
