25 years ago: County considers increase in ambulance rates

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 22, 1990:

Douglas County commissioners were planning to decide in February whether to increase Douglas County Ambulance Service rates this year. Commissioners this morning discussed a report on proposed rate increases with Ted McFarlane, the county’s director of Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Preparedness. McFarlane said that in the previous few years, commissioners had approved rate increases to reduce the ambulance service’s reliance on property taxes. The current base rates were $155 for emergency runs and $85 for non-emergency runs. McFarlane was recommending a 13 percent increase, which would bring the base rates up to $178 and $98 for emergency and non-emergency runs, respectively.
