40 years ago: KU spring enrollment breaks former records

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 21, 1975:

Spring enrollment at Kansas University was making its largest increase in the school’s history, according to officials on the hill. A record total of 20,008 students began classes this week, compared with 18,520 on the first day of classes a year previously. Figures released today showed 18,350 students attending on the Lawrence campus, compared with 16,924 the previous spring. “We’re greatly pleased with the increase,” Chancellor Archie Dykes said. “We feel the increase is attributable to the attractiveness of Kansas University, particularly the quality of academic programs.”
