Washburn water symposium to feature local artist

On Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Mulvane Art Museum at Washburn University in Topeka will host a symposium about the water issues today’s Kansans face.

The symposium is free and open to the public, and is held in conjunction with the museum’s current exhibition “Drift and Drag: Reflections on Water.”

Speakers include Dave Loewenstein, cultural agent for the Lawrence field office of the U.S. Department of Arts and Culture. The Lawrence-based artist, whose work is on display in “Drift and Drag,” will facilitate an arts-infused dialogue about water issues specific to Kansas.

His 45-minute workshop will see participants break into groups to devise solutions to the cultural and ecological issues related to water.
