More snow expected Tuesday afternoon; Wednesday bringing bitter cold

After snow Monday and Tuesday mornings, Lawrence and Douglas County are in for one more dose of winter weather Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The weather service expects bands of blowing snow to reach the area during the afternoon and early evening hours. New accumulation of 0.5 to 2 inches is possible, with wind gusts up to 25 miles per hour, according to the NWS.

The low temperature for Tuesday night will be around 9 degrees, with sub-zero wind chill values possible after midnight.

Wednesday’s high is expected to be around 19 degrees with wind chill readings as cold as 9 below in the morning.

The weather service’s five-day forecast shows no more chances of snow until the weekend.
