New exhibition featuring art of Lawrence students opening on campus

Both Lawrence high schools are collaborating with the Kansas University Department of Visual Art in a new art exhibition opening Sunday on campus. The work is a mix of drawing, painting, photography, ceramics and jewelry.

“Emergence: Lawrence Area High School Teacher and Student Exhibition” includes work from 25 students and five faculty members from both Lawrence and Free State high schools.

The opening reception for “Emergence” will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.

“‘Emergence’ is a new exhibition established with the goal of creating greater connections between the Department of Visual Art and the developing artists who will continue to shape the Lawrence arts community,” said Whitney Mahoney, KU lecturer in visual art.

The exhibition will run Feb. 15-27 in the gallery located on the third floor of the Art & Design Building, 1467 Jayhawk Blvd.
