LDCFM recognizes Haskell partnership with vehicle flag

The Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical Department unveiled a new flag for use on LDCFM vehicles at Station No. 2, specifically the new Quint 105-foot aerial. The flag was created because Station No. 2, at 2128 Harper St., supports Haskell Indian Nations University as part of its district for response.

The flag’s design is a combination of LDCFM’s Maltese cross and the Haskell Indian Nations University logo.

Members of Station No. 2 Z Shift presented Haskell President Venida Chenault with a modified flag promoting the relationship between the Lawrence Fire Department and Haskell Indian Nations University. “We have incredible pride in our community,” said Joseph Hardy, Z shift captain at Station No. 2. “We are proud of the relationships we’ve built with Haskell and other organizations we interact with. We work closely with Haskell staff to coordinate planning, safety and training exercises. It’s been a great relationship.”

Haskell President Venida Chenault participated in a causal ceremony on February 10 to unveil the flag and said that Haskell Indian Nations is very proud of the connections Haskell has to Station No. 2’s crew and the overall community.

“Haskell deeply appreciates the service the Lawrence Fire Department provides to the Haskell campus and our community,” said Chenault. “Ensuring the safety of our students is a shared responsibility that our firefighters and Haskell holds as a sacred trust. By recognizing the University on the trucks at Station No. 2, the Lawrence Fire Department and Haskell reaffirm our commitment to safety and service.”

Mayor Mike Amyx said, “We are always available to help our friends at Haskell and appreciate the partnerships that have been formed through our connected communities.”

Chenault also noted that there are numerous examples of Haskell alumni who have gone on to serve the Lawrence community as police or fire personnel.
