Baker football tops Grand View

? Damon Nolan returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown, and 15th-ranked Baker defeated No. 6 Grand View, 20-15, on Saturday in Heart of America Athletic Conference football.

It was Grand View’s first-ever league game in the HAAC.

Grand View scored first on a 39-yard field goal by Ben Hurley. But Nolan then retuned a punt for a TD to give the Wildcats a 7-3 lead.

Baker also scored on a 50-yard pass from Nick Marra to Ladai Shawn Boose and on field goals of 55 and 26 yards by Clarence Clark.

The Wildcats entered the fourth quarter with a 20-3 lead before Grand View scored on a 29-yard field goal by Hurley and a 29-yard run by Derek Fulton.

The final points came when Grand View scored a safety as Baker punter Jacob Tompkins tried to run out the clock in the back of the end zone with five seconds to go, but was knocked out of bounds.

Marra completed 17 of 30 passes for 229 yards and one touchdown, and Dalton Buehler added 89 yards rushing, including a run of 79 yards.

Darrian Winston and Hayden Jenkins each made an interception for Baker, and Akim Francis led the Wildcats with 7.5 tackles.

Baker will travel to Canton, Missouri, next Saturday to face Culver-Stockton in a noon game.
