Levy highlights Kansas track

Kansas University junior Daina Levy claimed the top collegiate finish in a field of some of the top hammer throwers in the nation Friday at the Triton Invitational. She added a season-best mark in the discus and was joined by two other Jayhawks in top-25 finishes at the event in La Jolla, California.

Levy tossed the hammer 63.67 meters (208 feet, 10 inches) to place second overall, first among collegians. She also placed 23rd in the open-division discus with a toss of 50.06 meters (164-3). Teammate Anastasiya Muchkayev was 20th at 50.47 (165-7), and Dasha Tsema was 21st at 50.41 (165-4).

Another group of KU track-and-field athletes competed at the Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Invitational Friday in Jopin, Missouri.

Sophomore Zainab Sanni led that contingent by running a leg on the winning 4X100-meter relay and winning the 400 in 55:80.

On the men’s side, KU’s Michael Stigler was the third collegian to finish in the 200 (21.44 seconds) and ran a leg on the second-place 4X100-meter relay team.
